Asbestos is a naturally occurring silicate mineral with long, thin fibrous crystals. The word asbestos is a borrowed Greek adjective meaning inextinguishable. The Greeks termed asbestos the miracle mineral because of its soft and pliant properties, as well as its ability to withstand heat. |
Asbestos became increasingly popular among manufacturers, traders and builders because of its resistance to heat, electrical and chemical damage, sound absorption and tensile strength. When asbestos is used for its resistance to fire or heat, the fibers are often mixed with cement or woven into fabric or mats. Asbestos was used in some products for its heat resistance, it also used on electric oven and hotplate wiring for its electrical insulation at elevated temperature, and in buildings for its flame-retardant and insulating properties, tensile strength, flexibility, and resistance to chemicals. |
Asbestos became more widespread because it is used as insulation material. |
Manufactured from a blend of carefully selected Asbestos fibers and other incombustible inorganic, ingredients. This is a versatile, thermal insulation and heat resistant material produced in sheets form using good quality Asbestos fibre witch can be easily cut, punched moulded. It does not suffer loss of Strength upto 485º C. When suitably supported the board can be used satisfactory at extreme temperatures upto approx 1400º C. A relatively inexpensive material with good thermal insulations properties for all kind of thermal insulation ranging from domestic cookers and ironing boards to industrial applications such as glass moulding, Ovens and furnaces and domestic stoves |
